WS90
Vario Drill
The correct tool for drilling the new High Strength Steels.
When
working with the new High Strength Steels, every job can be made
easier if you have correct equipment. The reduced number of hours
given by the insurance companies can be overcome by increasing productivity.
By using
the WS90 Vario Drill with the new Boron drill bits will certainly
save you time and
..also save you money.
The WS90
Vario Drill
·
Operates at 1200rpm or below. This prevents the drill bit from
being blunted too quickly.
· Use for removing spot welds on all flanges. Make
sure the 'G' clamp is fitted.
· Adjust the cutting depth to ensure there is no damage
to the panel below.
· To extend the life of the drill bit, use the centre
punch and the special cutting oil.
· Remove 'G' clamp when not working on flanges.
The
New Boron Drill Bits
·
Three sizes: 6.3mm 8.3mm or 10.3mm. Quickly remove the complete
spot weld and the 'halo' around it.
· Three cutting edges giving 50% more cutting power
through each rotation.
· If used correctly you can remove 80 spot welds on
Boron and 200 on normal steel
Additional
information
The
new Boron Steel being used on the cars today makes it extremely
difficult to drill out the spotwelds and as a result it needs a
special drill, a special technique and special drill bit to do it
successfully.
Note:
Never try drilling out a spotweld using a high speed drilling machine.
It is completely false economy. This will result in breakages of
the cutting edges and blunting of the drill bit cutting faces. Even
if the drilling machine can be operated at a lower speed, the tendency
is to speed it up and then the damage is done.
Using the wrong
drilling machine will blunt the drill bits very quickly. The technique
and the equipment are vital to do the job correctly.
The
economics
Imagine a drill
bit costing £30 being used on Boron, it will be blunt within
10 spot welds if the wrong drilling machine is used. That is £3
per spot weld.
Imagine this
same drill bit being used in the WS90 you get 80 spot weld on Boron
(35p per weld) and then 200 on body panels( 1.5p per weld)
The investment
in the WS90 and the correct drill bits makes perfect sense.
To drill
out BORON:
1 The drilling machine must not revolve at anything faster than
1200 rpm (revs per minute). Drilling at speeds faster than this
will blunt the cutting edges on the drill bit in no time at all.
We recommend the WS90 Vario Drill
2 You must use a drill bit made of high quality Tungsten Carbide
and it must have three cutting edges. This gives 50% more cutting
power.
3 You must use the centre punch tool to make a mark in the spot
weld (which also stops the drill tip from sliding around)
4 You must use special cutting oil on the spot weld and drill bit
tip.
5 Do not move the drilling machine from side to side. Always work
at 90 degrees to the job. On all flanges make sure the drill has
the special G clamp fitted.
If you use the
WS90 with the new special cutting drills, you can expect to remove
approximately 80 welds on Boron Steel and over 200 welds on other
places (quarter panels, sills etc).
Using the correct equipment is a real cost saver.
1 It gets the job done quicker and
2 It becomes more expensive if you are buying the wrong drill bits.
All existing
WS 90's can be serviced and repaired as long it is economically
viable.
